Biography
Léo Yeung (楊智豪 / ヤン・レオ) is a contemporary interdisciplinary artist based in France, whose practice spans France, Hong Kong and Japan. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and experimental materials, his work explores the relationships between materiality, nature, and migration, investigating the generative and transformative forces that continuously shape the world.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Yeung became actively involved in the city’s independent art community from an early age. For more than a decade, he was an active member of the inter-school art collective Art Focus, participating in exhibitions, curatorial projects, and cultural programs while engaging in dialogue with established Hong Kong artists. These formative experiences cultivated an open perspective on contemporary art and laid the foundation for his curatorial approach, which continues to inform his artistic practice today.
Having lived in France for nearly fifteen years, Léo has immersed himself in Paris’s contemporary art scene. Alongside his studio practice, he has participated in the artistic programs of the Atelier des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris. Through sustained visits with artworks in museums and galleries, ranging from art history and canonical works to cutting-edge contemporary practices, he has deepened his understanding of artistic contexts and approaches to making. At the same time, he has developed close friendships with artists in Paris, engaging in frequent and in-depth exchanges and growing together through their respective artistic practices. He regularly spent time in artists’ studios and exhibition spaces, taking part in the production of works, exhibition installation, and various aspects of artistic practice. These experiences have given him an insider’s understanding of contemporary art production and exhibition-making within the artist community. Together with his immersion in Paris’s artistic environment, they have shaped his engagement with abstraction, conceptual thinking, material experimentation, and artistic processes, gradually informing a creative language that brings together Eastern and Western cultural perspectives.
Yeung holds a Master of Philosophy from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where his research focused on digital imaging, interactive systems, and human–computer interaction. He has published academic papers and received international creative technology awards from Microsoft, Samsung, and Intel. This background continues to inform his artistic practice, where material research, technological media, and conceptual thinking intersect.
Living and working between Paris, Hong Kong, and Hokkaido continues to provide Yeung with diverse cultural and artistic perspectives.In recent years, Hokkaido, Japan, has become an important site of artistic research within his practice. Its natural landscapes, craft traditions, and regional cultural practices have become important sources of inspiration for his work. Alongside his studio practice, he actively develops interdisciplinary cultural initiatives connecting contemporary art, technology, education, and regional cultural development, exploring how art can foster dialogue and meaningful connections across cultures, communities, and generations.

Léo Yeung (楊智豪 / ヤン・レオ) est un artiste plasticien contemporain basé en France, dont la pratique se déploie entre la France, Hong Kong et le Japon. À travers la peinture, la sculpture, l’installation et l’expérimentation de matériaux, son travail explore les relations entre matérialité, nature et migration, et interroge les forces génératrices et transformatrices qui façonnent continuellement le monde.
Né et ayant grandi à Hong Kong, Yeung s’est engagé très tôt dans la scène artistique indépendante de la ville. Pendant plus d’une décennie, il a été membre actif du collectif artistique interscolaire Art Focus, participant à des expositions, des projets curatoriaux et des programmes culturels, tout en échangeant avec des artistes reconnus de la scène hongkongaise. Ces expériences fondatrices ont nourri son ouverture à l’art contemporain et posé les bases de son approche curatoriale, qui continue aujourd’hui d’informer sa pratique artistique.
Installé en France depuis près de quinze ans, Léo s’est profondément immergé dans la scène artistique contemporaine parisienne. Parallèlement à sa pratique en atelier, il a participé aux activités artistiques des Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris. À travers une fréquentation assidue des œuvres dans les musées et les galeries, de l’histoire de l’art et des œuvres majeures aux pratiques contemporaines les plus avant-gardistes, il a approfondi sa compréhension des contextes artistiques et des démarches de création. Parallèlement, il a noué des liens d’amitié étroits avec des artistes à Paris, entretenant avec eux des échanges fréquents et approfondis, et évoluant ensemble à travers leurs pratiques artistiques respectives. Il a ainsi régulièrement fréquenté leurs ateliers et les lieux d’exposition, participant à la production d’œuvres, au montage d’expositions et à diverses formes de pratique artistique. Ces expériences lui ont permis de développer une compréhension de l’intérieur de la création contemporaine et des dynamiques d’exposition au sein des communautés d’artistes. Associées à son immersion dans l’environnement artistique parisien, elles ont nourri son intérêt pour l’abstraction, la pensée conceptuelle, l’expérimentation matérielle et les processus de création, contribuant progressivement à l’élaboration d’un langage artistique qui met en dialogue des perspectives culturelles orientales et occidentales.
Yeung est titulaire d’un Master of Philosophy de la Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, où ses recherches portaient sur l’imagerie numérique, les systèmes interactifs et l’interaction homme-machine. Il a publié plusieurs articles scientifiques et reçu des prix internationaux dans le domaine des technologies créatives, décernés notamment par Microsoft, Samsung et Intel. Cette formation continue d’influencer sa pratique artistique, à la croisée de la recherche sur les matériaux, des médias technologiques et de la pensée conceptuelle.
Vivant et travaillant entre Paris, Hong Kong et Hokkaido, Yeung continue de nourrir sa pratique de perspectives culturelles et artistiques diverses. Ces dernières années, Hokkaido, au Japon, est devenu un territoire important de recherche artistique dans sa pratique. Ses paysages naturels, ses traditions artisanales et ses pratiques culturelles régionales constituent des sources d’inspiration majeures pour son travail. Parallèlement à sa pratique artistique, il développe activement des initiatives culturelles interdisciplinaires à la croisée de l’art contemporain, des technologies, de l’éducation et du développement culturel régional, explorant la manière dont l’art peut favoriser le dialogue et créer des liens significatifs entre les cultures, les communautés et les générations.

Léo Yeung（楊智豪／ヤン・レオ）為旅法當代跨領域藝術家，創作足跡橫跨法國、香港與日本。其作品涵蓋繪畫、雕塑、裝置及實驗性媒材，圍繞物質性（Materiality）、自然與遷徙（Migration）之間的關係，探索那些持續塑造世界的生成與轉化力量。
Léo 出生並成長於香港，自年少時期便積極參與本地獨立藝術社群，並於跨校藝術組織 Art Focus 活躍逾十年，參與展覽、策展計劃及文化活動，期間亦與多位香港藝術家交流。這段早期經歷培養了他對當代藝術的開放視野，並奠定了其策展思維的基礎，持續影響其創作實踐。
旅居法國近十五年，Léo 長期浸潤於巴黎的當代藝術環境，在工作室創作之外，亦參與巴黎市立美術工作室的藝術實踐，並透過觀看與研究美術館、畫廊中的藝術作品，從藝術史與經典作品到當代前沿創作，深化對藝術脈絡與創作方法的理解。同時，他與巴黎的藝術家好友保持深入而頻繁的交流，在彼此的藝術實踐中共同成長，進出藝術家工作室及展覽現場，參與作品製作、佈展與各種藝術實踐，從藝術家社群內部理解當代藝術的創作與展覽生態。這些經驗使抽象藝術、概念思考、材料實驗與創作過程成為其藝術觀的重要養分，逐步建立融合東西方文化的創作語言。
Léo 畢業於香港科技大學，取得哲學碩士學位（Master of Philosophy），研究方向涵蓋數位影像、互動系統及人機互動。他曾發表多篇學術論文，並獲得 Microsoft、Samsung 及 Intel 等國際企業頒發創意科技獎項。跨越藝術與科技的研究背景，這段跨越藝術、科技與研究的背景，至今仍持續影響其創作實踐，並在材料實驗、科技媒介與概念思考之間，形成其獨特的跨領域創作方法。
穿梭於法國巴黎、香港與日本北海道之間的生活與創作，使 Léo 持續從不同文化景觀與藝術傳統中汲取靈感。近年持續往返日本，並以北海道的自然景觀、日本的工藝文化及地方文化實踐作為長期研究與創作的重要養分。除了個人創作外，他亦積極參與跨領域文化計劃，連結當代藝術、科技、教育及地方文化發展，持續探索藝術如何成為不同文化、社群與世代之間交流、對話與連結的媒介。
